CRYPTS
OF ETERNITY #3
These are exciting times for Dark and Satanic Death Metal –
that's what the third issue of a fine Peruvian fanzine CRYPTS OF ETERNITY
tries to tell you. And Ricardo Lucas, the editor, does have a case.
He speaks about a Death Metal Renaissance where the devotion to dark
spirituality embraces once more this misunderstood genre and the music
displays the occult as exemplified by the likes of SADISTIC INTENT and
INCANTATION.
Well, it's a noble cause, it is happening and I'm in. If you
haven't paid attention, a number of new bands have emerged recently
pledging allegiance to the view that Death Metal has to be of Satanic
origin – like the ones Ricardo has chosen to present herein; BLASPHERIAN,
DROWNED, FUNEBRARUM, GODLESS, INCRUST, IMPETUOUS RAGE, NECROVATION,
UNAUSSPRECHLICHEN KULTER – to name but a few. Yet, though bleeding
for the return of True Death Metal, it is pleasing to see that the editor
is still ready to treat harshly bands that do fit the genre but do not
convince in the review section. "Honesty: the best of all the
lost arts," as a certain M. Twain would say.
It's a terrific fanzine. Ricardo is genuinely concerned about keeping
his Death Metal in the occult ways and that brings about some interesting
conversations that go in-depth at times. Although done on a computer,
the layout feels old and goes well with the whole, morbid affair. Well
suiting cover artwork as well that looks like some seven inch treasure
put out by Seraphic Decay back in the day.
